GAIA Programs—
Youth HIV Prevention
More than half of the population in Malawi is under 15.
Helping youth stay uninfected is critical to stemming
the epidemic and to economic development and social
progress in Malawi.
Prevention projects educate young
people about HIV, encourage appropriate behaviors,
and address AIDS-related denial and stigmatization. The peer-support messages are spread in creative ways
through street dramas, public debates, contests, poetry
readings, music, and radio broadcasts – all created and
produced by youths themselves.
